The MCAO Citizens Academy is a full-day, interactive program with presentations, tours and group activities designed to help you better understand the nuances in charging and prosecuting a case. This version of the Citizens Academy has been fine-tuned to our audience of crime analysts - many of whom have never been to a courtroom or the jail, despite creating and disseminating hundreds of crime bulletins and trend reports!
The academy runs from 8 AM to 4 PM and includes:
- Continental Breakfast and Box Lunch, courtesy of the AACA
-4th Avenue Jail tour, including booking, intake and holding areas
-Courtroom visit including sitting in on a portion of a trial and meeting with the Judge
-Visit from Sam, the MCAO K-9
-Trial/Forensic Exhibits tour
-Cold Case Presentation
-Mock shooting case and group exercise
-Q/A session with Maricopa County Attorney, Bill Montgomery
RSVPs are on a first-come, first-serve basis. The first 20 regular or associate AACA members who RSVP can attend. We will keep an additional five names on a stand-by list.
